Is Big Hero 6 Any Good?

Hello, I am Baymax
Big Hero 6 - Movie Review By Nathan Brooks

Baymax, your personal
healthcare assistant
At first, I thought I would start this review talking about frozen. Since it was this studio's last film and the fact that it's basically impossible to ignore it. It's somehow still huge even though its been over a year since it came out. I was going to compare Frozen to Big Hero 6 and I'd talk about how if Frozen blew up like this, why didn't Big Hero 6 and stuff like that. Then Big Hero 6 won the Oscar for best animated picture and now all of that seems pointless. So then, what is it that everyone loves so much about Big Hero 6?

Story
Well, lets just say it's not really because of the story. There's nothing bad about the story, it's fine. But there's the key word, 'fine'. It's not amazing, it's not excellent, it's just fine. To sum it up, the main character (Hiro's) older brother dies (not a spoiler, it's in the trailer) and the only thing left of him is a medical robot called Baymax. A bunch of stuff happens, Hiro discovers a villain, which he fights, with a team of 'geeks' he forms. There's a couple of twists and turns along the way but ultimately it's a bit basic. It is however, strong enough to hold your attention for the entire running time.
7.5/10

Characters
Looks like Hiro just realised
Big Hero 6 Won an Oscar
The two main characters, Hiro and Baymax are what really carry this film for me. Their relationship together is very well done. As I've previously mentioned Hiro's older brother dies at the beginning of the film and Baymax is the only thing left of him. Hiro then tries to deal with the loss of his brother through Baymax, and Baymax also attempts some 'psychological' ways of helping him. There's a scene at the end of the second act/beginning of the third that ties this all together and the film does it extremely well.

On his own, Baymax is still excellent. Being a robot he doesn't fully understand human emotions and anything else that isn't in his database. Which is hilarious. There's also a scene near-ish the beginning where his batteries are low and because of this, he starts acting drunk. I don't know who came up with that idea, but Disney needs to give them a pay rise.

The other supporting characters are, unfortunately, quite one dimensional, having basically just one quirk that defines their entire personality. They're all basically there to make jokes or move the story along and don't really have much of a character of their own. However, Baymax and Hiro more than make up for any problems I have with the rest of the characters.
8.5/10

Music
I feel like the music is always the hardest section, because in a lot of films there's just not much to say about it. Big Hero 6, unfortunately falls into that category. The music itself isn't bad at all, it's just not particularly memorable. It gets the job done, it makes sad scenes sadder and action scenes more, err, actiony-er?

What I'm trying to say is, the music won't blow your mind, but it won't hurt your ears either.
7.5/10

Looks
San Fransokyo at night
This film looks amazing. The animation is wonderful, obviously, it is Disney after all. But where it really excel, is in the design. San Fransokyo (yes, I did spell that right) is an amazing looking town and seems like a great place to live. There's so much detail put into every part of this place and it's also covered in easter eggs. You may even find yourself distracted from everything else and instead just staring at the world.

The action scenes are also worth mentioning, as they are done exceptionally well too, and manage to hold your interest, although your not exactly worried that someones going to die, as it is a kids movie, but that's not really a criticism that applies to this section.

In other words, this film looks pretty much perfect.
10/10

Final Thoughts
As much as I like this film, I have to admit, I was surprised it won that Oscar, considering it was up against How to Train Your Dragon 2. I thought that was more of an Oscar winning film than Big Hero 6 and I think it is probably better than Big Hero 6 as well. Despite all of that, though, Big Hero 6 is still very entertaining and very well made. I'd probably go as far to say that it's Disney's best CGI film to date (not counting anything Pixar made, of course). If you do watch his film (which I recommend you do) I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy it a lot.

Overall: 8.3/10
Yes, I thought it was better than Frozen. Just let it go.

A Horrible Christmas Rant

Horrible, Horrible Christmas, In Every Single Sense of the Word Horrible Christmas - A Quick Rant by Nathan Brooks The Good When you expect one thing, and get something else, you can get very angry. You can get so angry that you refuse to acknowledge the positives of what you have got, and just focus on what you haven't got. For example, Agents of SHIELD. I think Agents of SHIELD is great, but unfortunately I don't appear to share that opinion with a lot of other people. Why? Because they're too busy whining about the lack of all the superhero-y stuff they expected and fair enough, considering you are watching a Marvel TV show. However, I've managed to let that initial disappointment go, and I've found I really enjoy this show.  The Bad Horrible Christmas, a Horrible Histories stage production, is the complete opposite of this. As the theme of this post suggests, I expected something great. Horrible Histories is the only children's educatio...

Is Nativity 3: Dude, Where's My Donkey?! Any Good?

Dude, Where's My Funny?! Nativity 3: Dude, Where's My Donkey?! - Film Review by Nathan Brooks Nativity's lack of critical success completely baffles me. I thought Nativity was a great movie. It was funny, it had more depth to it than most comedies and was overall just a fun movie. Nativity 2: Danger in the Manger's lack of critical success, I understand a lot better. I still remember it being fairly entertaining, but I was about 11 then, and I didn't have a brilliant judgement of what makes a good movie. Of what I can remember, however, it was nowhere near as good as Nativity in terms of story and character and basically everything important needed to make a good film. I also remember that they spent most of the movie in a bus. Nativity 3: Dude, Where's My Donkey is proof that the film makers have given up on trying to please the critics. This is an awful film. Nativity 2 was not a brilliant movie, but it at least kept me entertained for however long it...

Is Avengers: Age of Ultron Any Good?

Avengers Assemble! Again! Avengers: Age of Ultron - Film Review by Nathan Brooks And they say English Weather's bad. Back in the summer of 2012, a little film came out called Avengers Assemble. It wasn't much. It's only the biggest superhero film of all time and it only made $1.518 billion. Everybody loved it, I loved it and clearly moviegoers did as well.  Due to its massive success, obviously a sequel was going to be made. In this case, that sequel is Avengers: Age of Ultron, but with all the hype it's received, is it actually any good? Story The story in this film is definitely not for first time Marvel viewers, you really need to see most, if not all, of the previous Marvel Cinematic Universe films. It is packed full of references to earlier films and understanding a lot of elements of the story will require you to have seen the others. But is the story any good? I thinks so. The main story centres around the fact that Tony Stark, or Iron Man, has ...
